BIOGRAPHY

Marjaana Ritanen is a Finnish young dramatic soprano. She is among the few selected to join the prestigious Mirjam Helin Academy, an advanced educational initiative for promising young singers, launched by the Finnish Cultural Foundation in autumn 2025.

She began her vocal studies at the Kuopio Conservatory and has pursued further training in voice and vocal pedagogy at Tampere University of Applied Sciences, where she is currently completing her pedagogy degree.

Marjaana gave her diploma recital in spring 2023, featuring Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder (in an arrangement for voice, string quartet, and piano) and Aulis Sallinen’s Four Songs of a Dream. That same year, she made her stage debuts as Puccini’s Suor Angelica at Tampere Cathedral and as Wagner’s Sieglinde (Die Walküre) with the Dramatic Voices Program Berlin.

Her debut album, featuring songs by Finnish composer Esko Alanen, was released in September 2023. In July 2024, she won first prize at the Kangasniemi National Singing Competition, and in January 2025, she was awarded second prizes both at the Lappeenranta National Singing Competition and the Mauno Pudas Foundation’s singing competition.
